REMA TIP TOP’s Brand Promise Delivers for a Major Pilbara Iron Ore Miner

// ONE BRAND // ONE SOURCE // ONE SYSTEM. It’s not just a marketing slogan, it’s the brand ethos that REMA TIP TOP lives by. When Rema Tip Top was approached by a long-term Pilbara-based iron ore mining partner to refurbish their thickener feed pipework, they had the opportunity to bring that slogan to life with a project that would utilise the full-scale of their manufacturing and service capabilities.

CLIENT BACKGROUND

Thickeners are an essential piece of equipment in iron ore mines. They increase the solids content of tailings by removing and recycling water, making the material easier and safer to store in tailings storage facilities.

When it came time for a Pilbara iron ore operation to replace their thickener feed pipework, Rema Tip Top was the clear front runner. Rema Tip Top has a standing service agreement with the client and due to the quality of their premium REMA PERFORMANCELine 35 product as well as their workmanship on site, they knew the job would be executed to a high standard.

THE CHALLENGE

Due to the essential nature of the equipment, there was no room for error. Without a product that has a high long-lasting abrasion resistance like REMA PERFORMANCELine 35 and flawless on-time execution, the operation would have been exposed to significant production downtime and financial impact.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Rubber lining internal faces using REMA PERFORMANCELine 35
  • Spool fabrication to AS4041
  • Full inspection and testing plan (ITP) for both the rubber and fabrication works
  • All QA/QC including weld procedures and NDT
  • Specialty steel procurement from overseas vendors
  • Supply of all specialty ancillary components

THE SOLUTION

After consultation with Rema Tip Top’s team of in-house chemists in Germany, it was determined that German engineered REMA PERFORMANCELine 35, combined with CEMENT BC3004 was the ideal product combination for this application. While major competitors don’t include a CN layer, REMA PERFORMANCELine 35 does, as it offers superior steel to rubber adhesion beyond the BS6374.5 minimum standards.

With all fabrication, steel and speciality ancillary components either made in house at Rema Tip Top’s Welshpool facility or procured within strict sourcing protocols; Rema Tip Top was able to maintain full quality control over the entire scope of the project.

THE OUTCOME

The project was executed flawlessly. Engineering, operations, sales and procurement were able to work together to ensure all timelines were met and work was executed to the highest standard. The project was completed with an excellent standard of work from the quality and longevity of REMA PERFORMANCELine 35, right down to the final install; all with complete MDR and traceability.
